I was an urbanist, three books about cities, now place-ethereal—but relevant—I promise. https://resurgencejourney.substack.com/

@ other folks I don't already know

We have a private list going of urbanist writers who'll be at Strong Towns, CNU, YimbyTown, Abundance Con, Progress Con, whatever. Intention is to help folks connect IRL.

DM me if you want to be included

You guys are fantastic

Wonderful work putting this list together! Before we started Urbanism Now I spent a good number of hours digging around to find great urbanist writers and didn't find anything nearly as comprehensive as this. Subscribed to a few of them today!

It would be appreciated if you could add Urbanism Now (https://urbanismnow.substack.com) to the list. Maria Paula Moreno Vivas and I focus on bringing together the best ideas from around the world to inspire action where you (c)are. It's a bit different than the folks doing deep dives on topics but a niche we were missing and decided to create.

PS: We'll be adding your reading list to your next issue!

Oh, great! Now that I'm back from traveling, I plan to update the list by the weekend with everyone we've found out about since publishing.

Terrific list--many old favorites, and some I didn't know. Any chance you can add CityObservatory to this list? Our substack (https://cityobservatory.substack.com/) and website (cityobseratory.org) both provide free commentary on a range of urban issues, including housing, transportation, climate, economic development and equity.

Yes, of course! I plan to update the list by the weekend, now that I'm back from nearly two weeks of travel abroad. Thanks!

Thanks for this. A lot of my favorites are on it and I look forward to checking out

some new ones too. Build to Thrive is a great Stack, too 👍🏼👍🏼

Hey there!! I’m new to Substack but have been around the urbanism world for a while. I’m writing a Substack about parenting in cities (with a focus on the Rust Belt) called Neighborhood Mom

Bummed that I didn't make it to the list yet:

ProFound City Insights: https://profoundinsights.substack.com/

Might be worth looking into. I focus on how urban form changes driver behavior. Turns out, it is, and always has been, about the people, which means there are wide ranging implications in every type of urbanity.

Happy to encounter you now! And I've updated the list with your info. The plan is to keep this "live" going forward.

This is an incredible resource—bookmarking immediately. It’s rare to see the 'Techno-Optimist' urbanists (like Construction Physics) listed alongside the 'Humanist' urbanists (like Chuck with Strong Towns).

One potential addition for the 'Broader Beats' section: 'The Works' by Rob Felton (or similar, if you have a specific favorite). There's a growing niche of 'Industrial Urbanism'—how we integrate manufacturing back into cities—that feels like the next frontier for the YIMBY movement. Great work compiling this!
