Interesting commentary. Albert Gallatin also financed the construction of the Erie Canal. Adams and Jefferson of course both died on July 4, 1826. I believe that 1826 was also the year that the very first photograph was taken, in Paris--and yet i have not heard, read or seen anything about this bicentennial. The first rail roads were also developed during the 1820s.

That Adams and Jefferson both died on the same anniversary is one of those historical facts that continues to blow my mind. I didn’t know about the photograph sharing an anniversary with that year. I came across a photo of Gallatin, apparently the only one ever taken of him…I lament that Adams and Jefferson didn’t live to get snapped. Happy Independence Day!
