Thanks, Andrew! There were two ways I was thinking about it: either as an occasional thing in lieu of a weekly essay, or as a supplement to the regular essays. I've stuck to a once-a-week publishing cadence so far, and that has lead to a steady increase in subscribers. I'm sensitive to Substack overload, though, so I could see publishing more frequently having the opposite effect. I should have asked, "Do you want to hear more from me?"
I think once a week is pretty good. I do tend to unsubscribe from newsletters that publish more than I can keep up with (typically 1-2 posts a week), although there are some exceptions to this.
There’s probably no perfect formula. With more posts I’d expect more subscribers but maybe less depth of engagement.
I enjoyed this! I don’t think you should stop doing regular essays but if you want to blend these in I think it’s a good idea.
